3Rensho XR Time Trial Bikes
at Yellow Jersey

3Rensho's designer/builder Yoshi Konno was a major force in the development of "funny bikes" in the early 1980s. His early work included this stunningly beautiful Gold Medal bike ridden by Dave Grylls in the Pan Am Games more comfortable than it looks

One's riding position is not different from a normal road position because that's the most comfortable and efficient position for a sustained effort. These bikes simply dispense with the upper "rest" position, assuming you won't be using a camera or eating a powerbar while setting your hour record. For time trial and triathlon events, the same basic idea carries through with gearing and brakes either in 3Rensho's affordable Athlete XR series frames or his professional quality and finish bike, the 3Rensho XR. Athlete XR bikes are built in two sizes. The smaller 53cm to top uses a 24" front wheel with a normal 700C rear. The larger 58 cm size (these frames measure to the top of the seat tube) is built for 700C wheels front and rear as seen in Dave Grylls' photo above. Downtube bosses can take classic levers or cable stops for Ergo levers. Some triathletes prefer classic levers mounted on the end of the aerobars and that works fine with these frames. Here's the Athlete XR:

and here's the 58 cm frame:

Same riding position for the bigger guy

All 3Rensho Athlete XR framesets are built with the exclusive Ishiwata Super Set tubing, seamless double butted CrMo tubes matched for size and gauge with frameset weight of 5.4lb. Frame dimensions are standard ISO with 1"x 24tpi threaded fork so you can use a taller Triathlon quill stem. Headset bores 30.2x26.4. 68mm X 1.370" X 24tpi BB, standard BSC dimsnsions. Double Butted seamless seat tube takes a 26.8mm seatpost. Two bottles and standard shift bosses are brazed on. Front changer is not, so you can use road (52/53) outer rings or triathlon ( 56/57) sizes. Rear ends are 126mm or 130mm by request. Seat angle is 74 degrees- We suggest the Profile Fast Forward 26.8mm seatpost for triathlon positioning.
