Our usually reliable plater was asked to plate chinstays with a fade on the seatstays and above the BB. Our plater did a beautiful job of polishing the frame ends and chainstays, just wonderful. Then, apprently siezed by some demon, he plated the entire frame, including areas with rust and dirt. This leaves an uneven surface. We usually just scuff chrome where it will be painted to enhance primer adhesion. Fortunately, I attemped to emery the chrome smooth, which promptly started flaking away, exposing rust and dirt under the chrome. Three long days of tedious handwork later it's ready for primer.
